
Monty Trainer
Monty Trainer is a beloved figure in Miami, recognized for his contributions to the arts, culture and civic life. After moving to Miami in 1968, he founded the legendary Monty’s Raw Bar & Marina in Coconut Grove, a local institution since 1969. A tireless advocate for the arts, Monty served as Chairman and President of the Coconut Grove Arts Festival,
helping shape it into a premier cultural event. He has been a Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs Council member for more than 20 years and remains deeply involved in arts education as Chairman and Board Member of New World School of the Arts. Beyond the arts, he played a key role in Miami’s growth, helping establish the Miami Arena and bringing global events like the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants to the city. His legacy of community service, cultural advocacy and civic leadership continues to shape Miami’s vibrant identity. Among his many accolades, Monty was awarded the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Arts and Business Council for his countless outstanding contributions to the arts and his unwavering support of artists and cultural organizations.
