Remaking Miami: Josefina Tarafa’s Photographs of the 1970s

During the 1970s, the photographer, editor, and philanthropist, Josefina Tarafa (born Havana, Cuba, 1907–died Miami, Florida, 1982) created an exceptional body of images that picture Miami transformed by the arrival of her fellow Cuban immigrants. The first exhibition dedicated to Tarafa’s photography, Remaking Miami includes thirty posthumous prints, made from photographs in an archive of approximately one hundred and fifty original images.

Miami-Dade’s first art museum has a truly global collection. The Lowe’s 19,300 permanent collection objects span 5,000 years of human creativity on every inhabited continent. Active Older Adults Program: Cardio Fitness Classes
Cardio Fitness is designed to help active older adults who are interested in improving their life through exercise. Classes combine three key components of fitness: Strength-Training, Flexibility, and Cardio-Conditioning and are taught by certified instructors. Each class is one full hour, is held indoors two to three times per week, presented in a fun environment making it the fitness choice for active older adults!
Many of Miami-Dade Parks Active Older Adult Recreation Hubs offer programs such as: Tai Chi, Zumba Gold, Yoga/ Meditation, Walk 4 Life, Water Exercise and Line Dancing. Please note, not all activities are offered at every park. Activities run through October 31, 2024.

Connections loans library materials by mail to individuals of all ages who are unable to visit Miami-Dade Public Libraries in person due to disabilities or conditions of aging. Library materials include regular and large print books, foreign language books, movies, audiobooks and music.
Materials are mailed to patrons at no cost. Return postage is also provided. Connections also loans deposit collections of library materials and provides special programming resources to facilities and groups that serve seniors and persons of all ages who are unable to visit a library in person.
