The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs is committed to continuing its collaborative efforts in working with people with disabilities and cultural/community organizations to help address ADA/accessibility compliance issues. The Department works to ensure that all of our grantees are likewise committed to making their facilities and programs accessible to all people, regardless of disability.
The Department works actively with key partners on a number of access initiatives, with the objective of creating regional and national models of best practices for increasing participation in the arts by making cultural activities more accessible for our residents and visitors. This includes partnering with the Arts4All Florida, Florida Department of State Division of Arts & Culture, Florida Access Coalition for the Arts (FLACA) and members of the All Kids Included - Accessible Arts Experiences for Kids (AKI) Steering Group to promote and facilitate accessible cultural programming in the community, and provide technical assistance for arts administrators on issues related to accessibility for audiences with disabilities.
The Department’s ADA/Access objectives include:
- establishing accessible, diverse and enjoyable cultural programs and facilities;
- increasing participation in the arts by making cultural activities more accessible for our residents, visitors, and artists; and
- developing lifelong learning and professional development opportunities through education, outreach and training partnerships.
