Although every nonprofit desires for its board of directors to be healthy, thriving, and effective, no board comes with a user manual. So, what are some practical ways to create a board that is happy, engaged, and productive—whether it’s at the founding, working, or professional stage? How do nonprofit leaders learn to navigate the important process of board management?
Join the Miami Emerging Arts Leaders for a conversation about what works and doesn’t work regarding arts nonprofit boards with Marte Siebenhar, Founder and CEO of The Business Healer (formerly named Cultured Innovations) and Jamie Perez Sutta, Founder and Artistic Director of The Children’s Voice Chorus.
During this interactive session, Jamie and Marte will share examples of failures, successes, and strategies that work for every age and stage of boards. Through prompts, breakout-room segments, and dialogue, you’ll be invited to participate, reflect, and create during the session. Their aim is for you to be inspired and make the most of the time together, emerging from the session with actionable next steps.
They seek to tailor the session to what’s top of mind for you, but topics will likely include:
• Strategies for involving your board in fundraising—and getting results
• Keeping your board focused, engaged, and inspired
• Board development successes/failures
• Where and how to find (and keep!) fabulous board members
• What to do when it’s time to say goodbye to a board member
Whether you are a seasoned executive with loads of board experience, an emerging leader just diving into working with boards, or at any stage in between, all are welcome as Jamie and Marte share right-sized strategies, best practices, and inspiration. Followed by an interactive Q&A.

Jamie Perez Sutta
Jamie Perez Sutta is a music educator and nonprofit leader in Miami, FL. Two strong threads have consistently woven throughout the fabric of her life: the platforms of singing and teaching as means to create expression, meaning, and connection with others. These are at the heart of what drives her as a leader, a creative individual, and a person dedicated to serving others through music. In 2022 she founded The Children's Voice Chorus (CVC) out of a desire to bring the joy of vocal music to any child who wanted to sing, regardless of their zip code. Under her direction, CVC choristers have had fantastic performing opportunities, including festival performances in New York, New Orleans, and Hawaii; collaborations with artists like Julian Marley and Enrique Iglesias; and a national performance of "America the Beautiful" at Super Bowl LIV with gospel artist Yolanda Adams. Jaime holds a Bachelor of Choral Music Education from Florida State University and a Master in Vocal Jazz Performance from the University of Miami.
