Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs Announces Cultural Grants Program Deadlines for the 2017-2018 Spring Cycle

Schedule of Grant-Specific Workshops Also Available

The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs has released guidelines and deadline schedules for the fiscal year 2017-2018 spring cycle of arts and cultural grants programs available to Miami-Dade County based non-profit cultural groups. Guidelines containing information regarding eligibility requirements, funding requests and other detailed program criteria can be downloaded at www.miamidadearts.org by clicking Grants/Grants for Organizations. Grant guidelines can also be requested by calling the Department of Cultural Affairs at (305) 375-4634, or via email at culture@miamidade.gov.

Grant application forms will be available beginning February 1, 2017, with the exception of the Youth Arts Enrichment (YEP) Grants Program. YEP guidelines and application forms will be available as of March 1, 2017. Major Cultural Institutions (MCI) grant applications are currently available.

 

Beginning in the spring 2017-2108 cycle, the Department of Cultural Affairs is implementing a new application review policy for select grants programs. Returning applicants to specific grant programs will have the option to submit a completed application, including all required support materials, no later than one full calendar week in advance of the grant program’s published application deadline for a thorough “Courtesy Review” by the Program Administrator. Returning applicants who waive their option for a Courtesy Review and submit their applications by the grant program’s published deadline will receive a technical sufficiency review only. Applications received from first-time applicants to a particular program by the grant program’s published application deadline will be reviewed by the Program Administrator and are exempt of meeting the program’s Courtesy Review deadline. 2017-2018 DEADLINES FOR SPRING CYCLE GRANT PROGRAMS:

 

ANNUAL OPERATING SUPPORT PROGRAMS

Major Cultural Institutions Grants Program (MCI) – Deadline February 9, 2017

Provides general operating support grants to fully professional institutions with year-round programs and annual fiscal operations specifically in Miami-Dade County that satisfy the eligibility requirements. The objective of this program is to help support the annual operations of and programming provided to the community by Miami-Dade’s largest, exemplary cultural organizations.

Cultural Advancement Grants Program (ADV) - Deadline March 9, 2017

Provides general operating support grants and technical assistance to a designated group of Miami-Dade County's mid to large size, artistically excellent and culturally diverse performing, and visual, literary and presenting arts organizations. Qualifying organizations are engaged year-round in the creation or presentation of art, within or across artistic fields and disciplines, and demonstrate the potential to achieve regional, national, or international visibility as evidenced by current artistic programs and management structure. Cultural Development Grants Program (CDG) - Deadline March 8, 2017

 

Provides general operating support grants and technical assistance to a designated group of Miami-Dade County's mid-sized, artistically accomplished and culturally diverse performing, visual, literary and presenting arts organizations that are defining the cultural and artistic voice of Miami. Qualifying organizations are committed year-round to the creation or presentation of art, within or across artistic fields and disciplines, which demonstrate the potential to achieve regional, national, or international visibility as evidenced by current programs and management structure and many times engage in strategic partnerships for greater artistic success. Festivals and Special Events Grants Program (FEST) - Deadline April 28, 2017

Provides grants to non-profit organizations presenting major annual festivals and special events in Miami-Dade County which have an established reputation for excellence and credibility, are capable of attracting visitors on regional, national and/or international levels, and have a significant and positive impact on the perception of Miami-Dade County as a dynamic cultural community. Hannibal Cox, Jr. Cultural Grants Program (HCJ) - Deadline March 9, 2017

Provides general operating support grants to small and mid-sized, semi-professional and professional organizations whose primary mission is the year-round creation, presentation, exhibition or performance of cultural activities. Applicants to this program must have a total prior year’s organizational budget of $100,000 or more. Courtesy Review Deadline March 2, 2017.

 

YOUTH ARTS PROGRAMS

Youth Arts Miami Grants Program (YAM) - Deadline March 8, 2017

Provides general operating support grants to non-profit youth arts organizations having a year-round presence in Miami-Dade County, whose primary mission is to create, present or exhibit cultural programs for and/or with children and youth. Applicants to this program must have at least a 3-consecutive year track record of providing a year-round season of youth arts activities for children in Miami-Dade County. Youth Arts Enrichment Grants Program (YEP) - Deadline May 4, 2017

Provides grants to nonprofit organizations providing cultural arts outreach programs that enrich the lives of children through the arts by making the arts available to more children and families throughout Miami-Dade County, whereby, children will have opportunities to have positive live arts experiences through:  Arts Instruction; Arts Intervention; Healing/Expressive Arts; In-school Performances; or Public Performances/Exhibitions. CULTURAL FACILITIES PROGRAMS

Capital Development Grants Program (CAP) - Deadline March 17, 2016

Provides grants to non-profit cultural organizations for capital improvement projects that are designed to expand, renovate, construct, and/or equip cultural facilities located within Miami-Dade County. These capital projects assist the nonprofit cultural community in providing increased public service, greater access, enhanced exhibition or performing space and in developing cultural facilities that can be operated more effectively and efficiently. Programs in facilities for which grants have been provided must be ADA accessible and promoted to the general public.

OUTREACH PROGRAMS

Audience Access Grants Program (AUD) – Ongoing

The Audience Access (AUD) Grant Program is designed to provide funding to help pay for arts program ADA/access technology and services, such as American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters, captioning, audio description, materials in accessible format, ADA/access training, and other such services to ensure programmatic access for audiences of all abilities.  This program is not intended to provide assistance in funding capital/facilities projects or improvements, such as construction, renovation or major equipment purchases.

 

International Cultural Exchange (ICE) - Deadline May 1, 2017

Provides grants to Miami-Dade County-based professional cultural organizations to support meaningful artistic exchange, partnerships or collaborations with professional artists, arts professionals and/or organizations abroad The program aims to elevate Miami-Dade County’s image abroad and to support the efforts of Miami-Dade’s artists and cultural organizations to improve their work by engaging in meaningful arts activities with artists, arts professionals (such as curators, historians, designers) and/or organizations abroad. PRE-GRANT SUBMISSION WORKSHOPS / CONSULTATIONS:

All applicants (both new and returning) are required to schedule a pre-grant submission consultation and/or attend a program specific workshop. Refer to the individual grant program guidelines to determine your specific workshop/consultation requirements.

Applicants must be registered as a Culture Grants Online (CGO) user in order to apply for a Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs grant program. Workshops on registering and using the CGO grant system are incorporated as part of each grant-specific workshop/consultation.

First-time applicants and/or new staff members who are unfamiliar with the Department's CGO grants system must schedule an in-person consultation and/or plan on attending the first-time user portion of the grant-specific workshop, as noted in the guidelines and workshop schedule.
