Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a National Historic Landmark and accredited museum in Miami, Florida ( The School Programs Manager develops and manages programs for school students and K-12 educators. The Manager supervises Vizcaya’s team of Learning Program Facilitators, a corps of part-time staff who implement school, academic and community programs onsite. The position reports to the Deputy Director for Learning and Community Engagement.

Vizcaya is owned by Miami-Dade County and is operated by the non-profit Vizcaya Museum and Gardens Trust, Inc. Our mission is to preserve the estate’s cultural and environmental resources to engage people in connecting with the past, understanding the present and shaping the future. Essential Functions
• Develop and manage a roster of discussion-based and object-based tours and lessons for school students.
• Facilitate learning engagement for school students and K-12 educators.
• Manage and sustain ongoing school partnerships. Identify new partnerships to support strategic goals.
• Recruit, train, supervise and mentor 7 part-time Learning Program Facilitators; maintain and refresh annual and continuing training curriculum as necessary.
• Orient and supervise episodic interns; refresh orientation as necessary.
• Assess and report the impact of school and academic programs with stakeholders (students, educators and faculty).
• Track and report program data at regular intervals as required.
• Manage the school programs budget (including inventories) and track expenditures of restricted and unrestricted funds.
• Serve on select institutional committees and participate in planning initiatives.
• Represent the museum externally, especially with Miami-Dade County Public Schools and various school program partners and funders.

Education and Work Experience
• Required: Required: Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Fluent in English. 3 years of experience with K-12 students in a formal or informal setting with at least 2 years in a supervisory role (staff, interns and/or volunteers).

• Preferred: Bilingual English/Spanish skills are preferred.

Skills and Attributes

• A commitment to mentor and coach emerging colleagues developing skills and experience.
• Strong verbal communication and public speaking skills to build rapport, trust and engagement among staff and key constituents (students, educators, faculty, partners). 
• Knowledge of theories or strategies that support positive learning and engagement.
• Strong organization and time management skills to work independently and to support concurrent programs and priorities.
• Demonstrate flexibility and patience to adapt to conditions that may fluctuate throughout the busy estate.
• A commitment to co-create programs and to reflect on program impact with colleagues and key constituents (students, educators, faculty, partners)
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and email. Proficiency with platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom is helpful.
• Proficiency with at least one database system to support constituent management.
• A commitment to an inclusive, welcoming and respectful environment for visitors, volunteers and employees of diverse backgrounds and needs to support the museum’s core values.

Work Environment/Physical Demands
Programs are implemented in public areas of the estate, indoors and outdoors. Ability to negotiate various terrain including stairs indoors and outdoors and walk/stand or be mobile for at least 90 minutes in various weather conditions. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, exempt position. Select evening and weekend work is required.
