Arsht Center Technical Theater Apprenticeship

Main Page Content

The Arsht Center Technical Theater Apprenticeship Program is designed to introduce residents of Miami-Dade County ages 18-24 from diverse backgrounds and underrepresented communities to a professional career in technical theater. This apprenticeship is a paid, three-year program, and apprentices are selected through an interview process and receive an hourly wage plus benefits during the first two years, joining the paid union workforce in the third year.

Apprentices will work daily on projects related to Arsht Center performances and events, under the supervision of industry professionals. Once an appropriate level of training has been completed, apprentices will work alongside International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) stagehands, exposing the apprentices to local and international artists, technicians, and companies. In addition to technical training, apprentices will attend Life Skills workshops focusing on financial literacy, health, resume building and more.

Production hours are long, varied and will include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Additional requirements include an ability to lift up to 50 lbs., work in dark spaces with loud noises, be comfortable with heights, and stand for long periods of time.

Approved and registered by the Florida Department of Education, Division of Career and Adult Education - Apprenticeship
