Patricia Romeu joined the Miami-Dade Art in Public Places program in July, 2006 to project manage all artwork commissions for the program. In addition to overseeing the implementation of artists’ work in conjunction with County construction projects, Patricia is responsible for identifying and pursuing opportunities for collaborations with all County departments and municipal partners on an on-going basis. She brings to this project management position 18 years of combined professional experience as an engineer, business entrepreneur, and general contractor.
Prior to joining Miami-Dade County, Patricia served as Project Manager for the Broward County Cultural Division Public Art projects at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). During this tenure, Patricia was instrumental in the completion of three (3) large-scale highly integrated works of art valued at over $4 million, completed on time and on budget for the opening of FLL’s new Rental Car Center.
Preceding her involvement in the public sector, Patricia served for 3 years as Operations Director in one of Miami-Dade’s major cultural institutions. In this position, she managed the business’ $3 million budget and oversaw a full-time staff of 20 employees. Concurrently, she also co-managed the last two phases of a $7 million renovation project of the theatre facility.
While pursuing a Masters degree in Business Administration and a Bachelors in Industrial and Systems Engineering, Patricia worked for 8 years as General Manager of her family-owned photography and video production company, and two years as a systems quality control engineer for the American Express Latin America and Caribbean headquarter.
Patricia’s Cuban roots are tied to one of the island’s most artistically renowned families, the Romeus, credited to date for popularizing one of Cuba’s music jewels the “Danzon.” Although, she did not pursue a career directly in the arts and music as most Romeu’s have done for generations, Patricia has chosen to apply her project management, construction, and contract negotiations skills to assist artists and cultural entities succeed in their own artistic endeavors. In her spare time, Patricia enjoys the sharing of quality time with her partner and close relatives, playing competitive tennis, and collaborating with friends and family in small- scale renovation projects.
