Miami Theater Center seeks dynamic, creative and highly skilled Teaching Artists for part-time/seasonal employment for the 2015–2016 season.
Miami Theater Center produces and presents stimulating, inspiring, and thought-‐provoking performances for audiences of all ages and abilities. At MTC, it is our goal to ensure that everyone who enters our venue or engages with our organization feels the warmth of our welcome and experiences the transformational power of live theater.
Successful applicants will be invited to become members of Miami Theater Center’s Teaching Artist Ensemble, a group of gifted performers and artists who bring their passion for theater into the classroom and other community settings. MTC’s TAs participate in a variety of education programs including: InSchool - interactive theater workshops for elementary, middle, and high school students; InPark - an opportunity for adults with disabilities to use theater games to develop their self-esteem, social skills, and creativity; OnCall - a program supported by The Batchelor Foundation, Inc. that brings theater and storytelling to children and teenagers in hospitals; and Musical Theater Camp - offered during Winter, Spring, and Summer breaks.
MTC’s Teaching Artist Ensemble members will collaboratively develop curriculum, participate in professional development sessions, and receive opportunities to reflect upon and assess their own practice.
Required qualifications
- Teaching experience in the arts (previous work in Miami Dade public schools a plus)
- Experience working with diverse populations and a range of ages
- Experience developing performing arts curriculum and lesson planning
- Ongoing commitment to expanding teaching skills and availability for professional development, cooperative curriculum planning, reflection, and feedback sessions
- Skills/training and professional experience in the performing arts
- College degree or professional equivalent
- Must provide own transportation to workshops
- Must pass a Level 2 background check
Desired qualifications:
- Experience in theater, dance, puppetry, playwriting or multidisciplinary arts
- Able to teach in languages other than English, including Spanish and Creole
- Experience teaching with various populations, i.e., early childhood, students with disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), and English language learners
- Experience teaching in after-school programs Part-time/seasonal position; competitive wages

Required application materials:
- Resume demonstrating training and experience as both an artist and a teacher/teaching artist.
- 2-3 Professional References
- A Lesson Plan Activity (approx. 10-‐15 minutes) to prepare, enhance, or build excitement for students attending Miami Theater Center’s production of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
The lesson plan should include:
- Lesson plan goals or aims
- One experiential main activity that is focused on the art form and/or themes in the show and meets the stated goals
- Reflection questions after the main activity
Lesson plans must be interactive and designed to highlight the applicant’s particular artistry, classroom experience, and approach to school-based work. Applicants must create an activity that is specific to MTC’s production of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
Selected applicants will be invited to attend a group audition on Monday, August 24TH from 10AM-2PM where they will be asked to teach their activity to other perspective and current Teaching Artists.
Successful applicants will be required to attending a professional development week held August 31st – September 4th from 10AM‐2PM.
