School & Family Programs Manager and part time Museum Educators

Position Purpose:

  • To further the mission of Coral Gables Museum through the promotion, development and management of educational programs for school-aged children.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Learns existing curriculum and develops new curriculum, lesson plans and activities to support the educational goals of each program.
  • Promotes school programs and teacher workshops to MDCPS and private schools.
  • Schedules school programs, group tours, and museum educators throughout the school year.
  • Develops, promotes, coordinates and manages all Museum Camps, to include single-day camps, winter, spring and summer.
  • Supervises Camp staff and volunteers.
  • Develops, coordinates and manages monthly Family Days.
  • Partners with community businesses to enhance program quality and impact.
  • Maintains communication with Director of Programs of ongoing progress of programs
  • Supervises and directs a part-time Program Assistant and volunteers to meet program objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Programs.

Other Job Duties:

  • Offer staff support as needed.
  • Facilitates School Tours (when needed) to early childhood and K-12 students, which will involve Powerpoint presentations, city tours, exhibit tours, art activities, group discussions and other activities.
  • Facilitate or assist in set-up, preparation and clean-up of scheduled school tours.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree required. Master degree preferred. Experience managing school and community programs.
  • Formal training or experience in the following subject areas: Education, Architecture, Urban Planning, Environmental Sustainability, and/or Public Administration.
  • Experience: working with K-12 school groups and MDCPS; developing curriculum; facilitating participants’ learning through a variety of activities.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with others, including school groups, teachers, other Museum Educators, and docent staff.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
  • Must be able to assist school groups in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of school groups; team member in building community relationships, maintaining program materials, and providing excellent customer service.
  • Have a working knowledge in electronic equipment: laptop, projector, etc.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
