Miami City Ballet Community Engagement is seeking dynamic and versatile teaching artists for its community engagement programs. Miami City Ballet believes in the power of dance to transform lives and holds a mission of eliminating barriers to access to arts experiences. We are looking for teaching artists proficiently engage with diverse populations, exhibit a passion for dance, possess strong teaching skill and successfully teach in an accessible, joyful, learner-centered manner. We welcome submissions from individuals with teaching artist experience with schools, urban, community populations, differently-abled and intergenerational to lead learning experiences in: classical ballet, creative movement, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, Flamenco, African and Latinx Diaspora and Folkloric.
The ideal candidate is:
• Passionate about dance and as an art form and a tool for transformation;
• Trained in dance education and arts in education;
• Self-aware and culturally competent
• Multi-Lingual: In either Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, American Sign Language
• Experienced (minimum 2 years) of dance teaching with diverse age groups and communities
• Alum from programs in Dance Education and/or “DEL” Dance Education Laboratory desired
Qualifications:
Miami City Ballet Community Engagement Teaching Artists:
• Possess the ability to command a room and engage children
• Teach with their whole body and display love of movement
• Embody exemplary professional conduct, administrative skills, excellent interpersonal communication skills
• Are able to successfully integrate in a school and office team setting
• Demonstrate an understanding of children’s dynamics and how to manage behavior
• Exhibit a generous spirit, flexibility, and a sense of humor
• Have understanding of cultural competence
• Display an attitude of life-long learning and ability to accept feedback
• Solid training and experience in their form and in teaching
• Demonstrated cultural competence

Miami City Ballet Community Engagement Teaching Artists:
• Reliably commit to the program design maintaining a consistent schedule
• Build community with participants, teachers, administrators, staff, students, parents, community
• Create successful sequential lessons that are developmentally appropriate
• Effectively teach across gender, age, race, ability, socio-economic and cultural diversity
• Assess participant learning and evaluate overall program effectiveness.
• Model behavior, demeanor and best-in-class practices
• Use dance to be relevant and build transformational self-esteem
• Share genuine affection for the audience/population for participants
• Demonstrate strong communication skills and emotional intelligence
• Manage time and schedule effectively
• Be professional in demeanor: respect for school/community space environment, materials, rules, schedule, and property.
• Communicate using voice and body language to captivate learners
• Demonstrate being a member of a team: reliable, collaborative, professional and accountable
• Illustrate lesson plan thinking and planning
